Dating isn’t easy when you have anxiety, but that doesn’t mean you should settle for less than you deserve. That doesn’t mean you should shrink yourself or hide aspects of your personality that you’re worried are unappealing. The loves from your past might not have handled your anxiety in a gentle way, but the right person is going to treat you well, no matter how anxious are are. Here are a few reminders you might need to hear if you’re struggling with anxiety and loving for love:

The right person won’t love you any less on your hard days.

They will understand that you won’t always be in the mood to socialize or get dressed and leave the house—and they won’t hold this against you. They won’t send you on guilt trips or push you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. This person will understand that some days are going to be more challenging than others. They will love you during your happiest moments and your hardest moments.

The right person will make life easier on your high anxiety days.

Your person shouldn’t be a source of constant stress. The right person will learn your boundaries and respect them. They will do whatever it takes to make you feel as safe and comfortable with them as possible. They won’t expect you to settle for the bare minimum. The right person will put in the effort to make you feel seen and heard, so you never have to question whether you are loved.

The right person will never make you feel like a burden.

Never settle for someone who makes you feel like an annoyance or an inconvenience. Never settle for someone who makes you feel like you have to put on an act around them because the right person will love the real, authentic you. Remember, you are enough. You are deserving of real love, the type of love that feels like home. And anyone who makes you believe that isn’t true isn’t the right one for you.

The right person will be comfortable seeing your tears.

They won’t run the other direction when you show the slightest bit of emotion. They won’t accuse you of overreacting when your raw feelings come out because they will consider all of your emotions valid, even the ones they don’t entirely understand. Instead of judging you over your vulnerability, they will appreciate how open and honest you’re being with them.

The right person will make you feel appreciated on your high anxiety days.

They will understand how much effort you’re putting in every single day—and they will acknowledge that effort. This person will never take your love and kindness for granted. They will never make you feel unseen or unappreciated because they know how much you care, how much work you’re putting in every minute of every day.
