It’s never too late to make resolutions for the new year. If you want 2026 to be the best year yet, then there are a few promises you should make to yourself. There are a few ways you can make yourself happier and more comfortable every single day. Here are some realistic goals for anyone who has been feeling anxious:
Say no more often.
It’s not your responsibility to take care of everyone you meet—especially if it comes at the expense of your own mental health. In 2026, stop overextending yourself, especially for the people who would never do the same for you. You are allowed to say no. You are allowed to set strict boundaries and put yourself first for once in your life.
If you’re feeling anxious, give yourself some time to relax and reset.
In 2026, stop packing your schedule and set aside adequate time to unwind. No mater how many goals you have set for yourself, no matter how pressured you feel to accomplish everything on your to-do list, you can’t push yourself too hard or you will burn out. Remember, you don’t need to earn rest. You inherently deserve it.
Stop feeling guilty about doing what makes you happiest.
Even though it’s important to try new things here and there, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone isn’t always the answer. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is make yourself comfortable. It’s okay if you don’t want to spend a night out, if you want some time to yourself. If you’re happiest at home, you’re allowed to stay home. There’s no reason to feel guilty about doing whatever brings you the most joy.
Stop smothering your own emotions.
Your feelings are valid. It’s okay that you feel everything strongly. There’s nothing wrong with being a sensitive soul. You don’t have to pretend that you’re perfectly fine when you’re secretly struggling. The people who genuinely care about you will want you to be honest with them. They will want to know how you’re really doing, so give them the real answer, not the answer you think they want.
Embrace the most authentic version of yourself.
This year, do yourself a favor and stop trying to please everyone around you. Stop trying to give them the version of you that they will find the most palatable. You shouldn’t have to hide your true self from the people who love you. You should feel comfortable letting loose and embracing the most authentic version of you.
Don’t hesitate to cut out people who hurt you when you’re feeling anxious.
You don’t owe anyone your time, your effort, or your love. If someone has hurt you over and over, then you are allowed to walk away. You are allowed to decide the pain ends today. There’s no reason to surround yourself with people who bring you down when there are so many people out there who would never dream of hurting you.
