If you’re someone who suffers from anxious thoughts, you might feel like you’re going through your struggles alone. But so many other people out there feel the exact same way as you do. You are not alone. Here are a few common traits of highly anxious people.

We are overthinkers.

As anxious people, we naturally overthink every given situation. We struggle to let loose and live in the moment because we’re always concerned about what is awaiting us in the future or replaying events that have happened to us in the past. Every social interaction we have will be examined from every possible angle. We are in our heads every moment, every day, and quite frankly, it is exhausting.

We are deep feelers.

Since we feel every emotion intensely, it’s difficult to deal with negative experiences. When we’re upset, we start to spiral. It feels like the end of the world and we struggle to regain balance. But these big feelings only occur because we care so deeply. We love so hard. Although it can be frustrating to have such extreme emotions, it’s really a sign that we care.

We are worriers.

Even though we will try our best to stay positive, optimism doesn’t come naturally to us. We are always imagining the worst case scenarios. We are always worrying about what could go wrong. Even when things are going well, we are counting down the seconds until that changes.

We are always on edge.

As anxious people, we have trouble relaxing. We can’t turn our brains off for a second. Our thoughts are always racing. Our fears are always whispering. Even though we deserve our rest, it’s tough to get a good night’s sleep or enjoy a vacation because we have so much on our minds.

We are insecure.

We are constantly worried about how other people perceive us. Even though we know, deep down, that their opinion doesn’t matter, we can’t stop ourselves from wanting to be loved and accepted. Although we might feel socially awkward at times, we crave connection. We want to be wanted. Badly.

We are hard workers.

If you’re searching for another word for anxious feelings to accurately describe your mental state, there are a lot of negatives that might spring to mind. However, your anxiety isn’t something you should be ashamed of. After all, you are a hard worker. You are putting in an exhausting amount of effort every single day. Even though you might be struggling, you are always trying your best. You should be proud of yourself for how much you care, for how hard you work. It might be hard to believe, but you are doing better than you’ve been telling yourself. You are more impressive than you realize.
